Origin and Application:
In his famous sermon on Mount Beatitudes, Jesus said to the crowds on mountain top, "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.」
Another word for pig is swine. If you cast pearls before swine, you offer something valuable to people who don't appreciate it.

耶穌在八福山上著名的講道(登山寶訓)中, 他對群眾說:「不要把聖物給狗,也不要把珍珠丟在豬前,因為豬會把珍珠踐踏.而狗則會轉過頭來,向你們狂噬。」 "Do not give dogs what is sacred; do not throw your pearls to pigs. If you do, they may trample them under their feet, and then turn and tear you to pieces.」（馬太福音7:6）
Cast pearls before swine 這習語中，「Swine」是「Pig」的另外一個說法。你把珍珠丟在豬面前，就等於你把一件有價值的東西給一個不會珍惜這件寶物的人。
